Why Kalkan?

A bustling Greek fishing village called Kalamaki until the 1920s, Kalkan is now largely devoted to up market tourism. Despite on-going development in the hinterland, Kalkan's incalculable charms cast a spell in the compact old town. The Lonely Planet website says Kalkan is "a well-to-do harbourside town built largely on hills that look down on an almost-perfect bay. It's as justly popular for its excellent restaurants as its small but central beach." One Sunday Times writer claimed Kalkan attracts the kind of visitor who would also enjoy Tuscany or the Dordogne.  The Guardian described it as “the Italian Riviera minus the poseurs.”

In July and August the average temperature is around 25 degrees Celsius, although it can go above 30 degrees. On average the town enjoys 12 to 13 hours of sunshine daily. But the weather is very pleasant from early May until October. £ sterling.

Add to this the weakening of the Turkish Lira which makes visitors' hard currencies (like sterling and the dollar) go farther and you can see why tourism is booming again in Turkey. In August 2016 there were 3.7 TL to the £ sterling. In May 2018 there were 6.2 TL to the £ sterling.
