What to do in Kalkan

The harbour

Let's share some of our favourite places....

Kaputaş Beach

A six minute minibus/taxi drive away from Kalkan, this beach is on the way to Kaş. The beach and the water are kept very clean by the local council.

Saklıkent

A hike through Saklıkent, Turkey’s longest canyon, is an unforgettable experience.  It is a 40 minute drive from Kalkan but there are many organised tours or you can negotiate a price with a taxi driver. Situated in a national park, the air is cooler here. The walk up the gorge isn't easy and can involve crossing deep, fast flowing, freezing cold water. But you are rewarded with incredible views. Just entering the mouth of the canyon and dipping your feet into the icy water makes for a great memory.

Patara Beach

Minibuses run to Patara Beach every day, a 20 minute drive away. You can also go on a private tour or negotiate with a taxi driver. There you can enjoy horse riding and sand surfing on 12 kilometers of white beaches. Voted one of the top beaches in the world by Times Online.

Patara Ancient City

Once an important Lycian port town, Patara is said by some to have been the birthplace of Apollo. St. Nicholas was certainly born here. Following its capture by Alexander the Great Patara became an important naval base as well. It is thought to be home to the world's oldest lighthouse. The amphitheatre is one of the largest in Anatolia.

Dalyan

Dalyan is about a two hour ride away. But it's well worth a visit. You can wallow in the mud baths (good for your skin apparently) and after a shower you can take a dip in the nearby thermal pools. You can also see the incredible rock tombs and the famous Carrete turtles frolicking in the sea,
